Blog EntryJe Suis Accusé - I am AccusedJun 12, '08 6:35 PM
for everyone
I wrote this poem, in response to some very nasty pm's from men, on Yahoo. Being that I have a wicked sense of humour, I went OVERBOARD in retaliation...well maybe, not retaliation, but I felt that responding to their silly stereotypes with some of my own stereotypes, would be fair play...It just so happens that Sacred Songspace has an interesting newchallenge...one has to compose a poem about something, that incites/inflames....and even more interesting, my friend Karen, has a very interesting and provocative blog post...soooooooo...sometimes ya just have to laugh...by the way, I have decided to self-publish through Amazon; this poem will be in the book, which is titled, "Beyond the Veil"...

I,

Am accused of female misogyny,
Of abusing the XY segment of the human race,
And belittling ego/id/dick, Western driven, and implied superiority.

I stand accused of slandering their lives and sexcentric identities,
Of trivializing their historical contributions and revisions,
And snickering at midlife absurdities and flaccid senior sensibilities.

I stand accused of reviling their petty blood engorged man things,
Laughing at pretenses of civil behaviors,
And revealing the practice and perversity of legal hypocrisies.

I stand accused of mocking the arrogant, swaggering gaits,
Of deriding justifications of bullying jingoism,
And exaggeration of their chauvinistic excesses.

I stand accused of misrepresenting their familial obligations,
Making false accusations of forgotten, unsupported, clandestinely begotten children,
And questioning their inbred, tribalistics identities.

I stand accused of misunderstanding their contextual violence,
Misconstruing the limitless capacity for domination,
Of ignoring religiously given man rights,
and not comprehending a woman’s place.

I.     Am.    Guilty.    As.    Charged.

ROFL!!!! Make that three (except the misunderstanding their contextual violence, which I freely to confess to failing to misunderstand).

Man, that last line is just--I love it! It's wild and fierce and unrepentant.

Don't shoot me, but is there a typo in "triabalistics identities"? (I know, but if you're going to publish...regarding which--hooray!!!!! You'll provide information, right?)

Oh, and--thank you! I don't know about interesting, but I imagine the "curse" post has provoked at least a couple people...

hee heee...and yes, thank you for catching the mis-spelling..."misunderstanding their contextual violence" came from a conversation with a NGO moderator...he kept telling me that I misunderstood the violence, between Palestinian and Israelis...and that it was contextual...I told him dead was dead!

Ah, I see. I was thinking of violence against women, in the context of sexism. I realize that was totally ME reading into what was there.

Sue, the line was influenced by the conversation with Mr. NGO...I use it here, to mean the violence of men, against women...

What is NGO, please?

What is NGO, please?

An NGO is a non-governmental organization...I belonged to one that promoted peace, and understanding between Jews & Muslims...too often the peace was marred with bigotry & insults, by my fellow Jews...

Vee, when I read female misogyny I was confused--female hatred of women...but then goes on to what sounds more like misandry. Can you explain it to me please? it's very powerful, I want to know your intentions.

PS I am publishing with iUniverse
PPS re a comment about your brother: I taught the deaf and language impaired. :)

Thank goodness for catching that Sue...I actually mean misandry although at the time I was also thinking of how women, also buy into stereotypes portrayed by men...one case that was in my mind was female mutilation , as it is performed by women...I am unsure if I should change it...

the deaf in New York? My brother attended school, for a short time, in New York...hmmm...I think that it was in 1966...

Well, you could go for misanthropy, which would be gender neutral but change your meaning beyond recognition...

Is there a way you could work in both female misogyny and misandry? They're both such important concepts...

I agree Karen...thank you...I was wondering if that would work...

I find myself tempted to stray way off-topic and start discussing this...but I'll just say that I admire you and think the world could use a lot more peace and understanding.

That was before my time...but I was very rooted and active in the deaf community and the issues.

I see this piece as being against the establishment and against the common perceptions. While you may have had specific things in mind while writing it, clearly, readers have found their own meaning. These are the words that bring change, break tradition -- they are dangerous and have consequences. Also, it's a beautiful poem :)

Brian, this was one of those poems, that wrote itself...I am a revision queen but have not changed anything...I leave that in the very capable hands, of my editor... :)
