so you think words
and love
should come easy
or that they ought to come sweetly
and neatly?
you like to pretend
your sticky cotton candy attitude
prevails in this world
passing a little girl’s make believe wand
to remove the evil
or malicious intent
seen and unseen
you think people are inherently
good
your pain was an accident
a misunderstanding
his misuse of your emotions
a faus paux
a cosmic ooops
thus enabling you to walk around
in a state of bewilderment and befuddlement
asking why me
beating your breast
while requesting answers that should be
self-evident
you smell like prey
a willing game piece
drawing Lotharios, predators
men who render your flesh
meat in their jaws
occasionally swallowed whole
without being chewed
or loved
yet you continue to advertise
a willingness to be a victim
scenting the wind with foolishness
silly expectations
of a white picket fence
cozy condo
so eager to fall in love
keen for a romantic dream
the reality dismays you
disconcerting in its messiness
its vim, its verve
you are the physical proof
that the simple
does not always evolve to the complex
how can you ever understand authentic
physical love?
get thee to a nunnery
foolish child
where you can dream of a passion
safely
in a virginal godly seraglio
